Weekend Valley: National Geographic's infinte photo.

If nothing else, we consider ourselves fans of the planet. It has always done pretty well by us, and we like to think that we try to return the favor more or less. But the fine people at National Geographic (of whom we are clearly enormous fans) have done us one better. You would do well to spend a few minutes checking out their Infinite Photograph - As Seen On Earth, which is essentially a never-ending digital photomosaic that will literally blow one's mind. Double-click on the individual photos if you want to find out more about them, otherwise just click away. Pretty amazing stuff.

Internet so much huger than you could have imagined.

We are thankful for nothing more than the internet, and have always held the belief that its effect on our daily life can hardly be measured. Well, thanks to the minds at Online Education, that is patently untrue. The graphic is pretty self-explanatory, but it just staggers the mind to think that an aspect of our lives that is so totally pervasive and ubiquitous has been around for what, a little over a decade? And 210 billion emails daily? That's roughly 35 times the population of the earth. Not bad for a series of tubes.

DC heading back to the drawing board.

To mark its 75th anniversary, DC comics is planning to begin in 2010 a new Earth One line (somehow the best name they could have come up with), which will reintroduce Superman and Batman from the beginnings of their respective stories. One has to think this sort of thing can really go either way, and it will be interesting to see how the writers respond to being allowed to retell the stories of the two most prominent characters in just about any medium ever. We will say this: we like the new look for Batman (by artist Gary Frank). We will certainly temper our expectations, but it's hard not to be excited. Nothing like getting in on something from the ground floor. And it wouldn't be right not to include the Man of Steel himself:

Morning Marginalia: Star Wars art.

R2-D2 tagging a wall is part of an installation by Art Asylum Boston called Art Strikes Back, in which 30 artists re-envision characters and scenes from the trilogy. If you happen to be in Boston between now and the 6th, you can check it out.
